WAKING UP IN: HOTEL BOQUIER, AVIGNON, FRANCE.

After a long day traveling on the train, We found ourselves standing outside the magnificent wall of a medieval city also known as “the city of the Popes”. Avignon is the kind of cities I’d love to be back in a heartbeat, find out why HERE! It was the start of the Theater festival when we arrived and we were lucky to be able to check into a quaint hotel— Hotel Boquier

Checking In

Arriving on SNCF train after midnight, I was so worried that we wouldn’t be able to check in. We were not supposed to be that late, we missed a train connection. Lucky enough for us, Pascal and Sylvie were waiting for us despite normally closing reception at 8pm. Check in was a breeze, maybe because he saw our exhausted look, he made things easier? Pascal helped us with our bags as he led us through the maze of stairs, we were in our room in no time, I didn’t even have time to appreciate the room... I fell right into a coma as soon as my head touched the pillow. 2 keys were given to us in case we needed to leave early or return late.

Inside the Hotel

A step inside Boquier hotel takes you back to your grandma’s house... The lobby was beautifully designed with tasteful furnishing, giving me the instant homey feeling. Pretty lacey details, the antiques, the painting on the wall, the idyllic surrounding with a lot of old charm… Left me with the question: this must be what life looks like for those who are born into French Families? (Yay? Nay?)

The Staff

The most important element that made me appreciate my stay here so much is the warm and hospitalizable hosts. Hotel Boquier is a family-run establishment managed by a lovely couple, Sylvie and Pascal. I would say that their service was flawless, making sure that our stay was a pleasant one. They were very helpful and gives personal, genuine recommendations when asked. We weren’t able to spend much time in the hotel but every time we met in the breakfast room or in the corridor, they would greet us warming, addressing us by our names. Love the personal touch!

The Room

During our stay, We checked into a room on the 2nd floor, with a patio and a huge bathroom. I can’t say that the room was spacious, but it certainly didn’t feel crampy as the room was very well designed. Yellow lamps were installed to give out that warm and cozy feeling. In the day, the room was perfectly infiltrated with a good dose of vitamin D. (Sorry, medical terms! Translation: inviting streams of sunlight.)
My favorite element of the room must have been the patio where I spent some good time reading all the brochures I got from the tourist office down the road. The air condition in the room worked well, which helped a lot in my battle with the scorching summer heat. The bed was comfortable and it wasn’t too soft, just the way I like it.
Free Wifi worked well in the room, I was able to upload photos during my stay.

Breakfast Experience

The breakfast buffet was small but plentiful, offering fresh organic fruits, ham, cheese, croissants, yogurt, hard boiled eggs and cereals, all beautifully prepared on time with love. Seriously, My absolute favorite was the delicious homemade apricot jam by Sylvie. It goes incredibly well with the croissants! Hot chocolate drinks were prepared upon request, it was satisfying. We ordered it two days in a row. Believe me, you couldn’t get a more satisfying full breakfast with just 9 Euros.

Around the Hotel

The hotel is situated within the walls in the prime location, at the same time tucked away on a small side street. So despite it being so near to the main road with an Irish Bar operating around the corner, it was very quite at night. The location is unbeatable- just a short stroll from all the popular attractions in the city and a wide selection of eateries minutes away. The city is suitable to be explored by foot, just make sure you pack a pair of good walking shoes in!

Conclusion

During the Theater festival, Avignon becomes a playground for all the cool creative kids. It was not easy to find a room in Avignon so we were quite blissed out when we were informed that Hotel Boquier will be hosting our stay. This quaint family-run hotel set a high standard for all 2-star hotels out there, and the hosts perfectly exemplify the charm of Southern French (which we absolutely absolutely LOVE!)
